    NEW SWEDEN, Maine — Did you know stacking and un-stacking plastic cups is an energizing, brain-activating and world-record setting activity? The students at the New Sweden Consolidated School learned how fun and energizing this activity could be when they took part in Guiness World Records Day on Nov. 13, 2014.

Limestone town manager to retire

The Limestone Selectpeople met on Wednesday, Nov. 19 for their regular town meeting.
The board began by announcing the resignation dates of both Town Manager Donna Bernier and Office Clerk Vicki Page. Page’s resignation date was Nov. 21, while Bernier is set to step down on Dec. 19. The town held a special luncheon for Page on Thursday, which was held at the town office.

Former Birds Eye site clean up falls to city

    CARIBOU, Maine — Using the state’s dangerous building statute, Caribou’s City Council enacted clean up guidelines for the former Birds Eye site in August and property owner Steven R. Nasiff of the Massachusetts-based Nasiff Land LLC was ordered to remove the dilapidated structures and remediate environmental concerns.

Winter storms: The ‘hidden’ hazards

I have noticed, in my years as a meteorologist, that when a winter storm is in the forecast, folks tend to over-focus on how much is expected, while not fully considering the storm’s other hazards, which include possible white-outs, dangerous cold, and getting stuck without a winter survival kit!
