Holiday Fare – Part 1

I usually start my serious holiday baking this week, especially since my feline kitchen assistants are eager to pick up some odd jobs like diving after anything that falls on the floor and licking the bowls, of course. Just kidding, but really, I need a solid two weeks to get all my sweets and savories planned and prepared.

Union 122 to partner with WAGM for ‘Kidstory’ history project

    NEW SWEDEN, Maine — The Joint Committee of School Union 122 met on Dec. 4, 2014 for their regular monthly meeting at the New Sweden School.
According to Union 122 Superintendent Karla Michaud, meetings have now been scheduled with building administrators to discuss and identify budgetary needs in each of the buildings associated with Union 122 schools. The meetings will discuss not only budgetary decisions that will need to be made, but also staffing needs and classroom configuration for the 2015-16 school year.

Tree farms hitting season’s peak

Steve Sherman, president of the Maine Christmas Tree Association, has been busy in recent weeks, preparing trees from his farm for shipment to market, and helping visitors to Deep in the Woods Gift Shop (operated by his wife, Judy Sherman) in selecting just the right trees for their homes. He’s no stranger to the business, having dedicated nearly 30 years to the industry.

Woodland School installs security camera

    WOODLAND, Maine — The Woodland School board held their regular monthly meeting on Monday, Dec. 8 at the Woodland School library to discuss a number of agenda items, including the news that all Title 1 and Local Entitlement grants have recently been approved for the 2014-15 school year.

County Commissioners approve Sheriff’s Office appointments

The Aroostook County Commissioners held their regular meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at the Caribou Courthouse.
The board approved a fire protection agreement with the town of Oakfield for the unorganized townships of T7R3, T7R4 and T7R5.
