Top soccer players lauded

Marissa Chasse of the state champion Ashland Hornets was named Maine Class D Co-Player of the Year by the Maine Soccer Coaches during the annual banquet held Sunday.
Chasse, the all-time leading goal scorer in Ashland girls soccer history, shared the Class D award with Penobscot Valley High School’s Amy Hallett.

UMPI women boast some local talent

 

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The early season for the Maine-Presque Isle women’s basketball team has been expectedly difficult. Starting the year without 70 percent of its offense from last season’s outstanding 18-7 season and losing USCAA First-Team All-American Olivia McNally to graduation, most would expect bumps along the road, but head coach Doug Carter has also been handcuffed with injuries and a roster filled with inexperienced collegiate players most of the preseason.

Caribou recreation update

The girls’ basketball program for grades 4-6 meets Mondays, Wednesdays and some Fridays from 3-5 p.m. at the wellness and recreation center.
Pre-registration is required. The program begins Jan. 5 and runs through March 11.

Shaw to coach Owl softball

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Sara Shaw has been named the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s new softball coach.
The owner of FitLife Personal Fitness Training, she was the director of parks and recreation in Limestone from 2012-14.
