It’s time to look past party labels and work together

    Last week, the members of the 127th Legislature took their oath of office. We come from all corners of the state – from Fort Kent to Calais to Kittery and everywhere in between.
We are Democrats, Republicans and independents, residents of rural and urban communities on the coast, in the woods and in the mountains.

McKensie visits Ayotte

    CARIBOU — The Opportunities Aroostook initiative has passed a significant social media milestone. The Opportunities Aroostook Facebook page raced past the 1,000 “likes” mark as more and more people are exploring work, recreation and social opportunities in Aroostook County.

• News from East Washburn — Wilmont Crouse seems to be the man who knows how to gather up a drove of cattle; last Saturday he had forty-six head driven on this road. Thomas Hemphill sold his farm to J. P. Churchill and has taken in part some Presque Isle village property. Lots of young people are enjoying the skating these days.
• A ‘crackerjack’ Christmas list — H. H. Whitney states in their advertisement, A pretty new piece of furniture is just the thing for Christmas and we have a crackerjack list to choose from including: brass beds, $10 – $35; silk floss mattresses $13 – $19; and dining tables $5 – $40.

Hometown Christmas happens Thursday

Thursday, December 11, 2014 will feature one of my favorite events: Caribou Hometown Christmas. Fourteen of our local businesses will stay open extra hours from 5 to 8 p.m. with special sales or promotions, refreshments and door prize drawings!

    CARIBOU — Two new members of the Aroostook County Tourism Board of Directors were welcomed at the group’s Dec. 4 meeting at the Northern Maine Development Commision. Jane Torres of Houlton and Joe LaChance of Madawaska were selected to serve.
