Tight budgets may force Caribou to forego a new assistant city manager

    CARIBOU, Maine —  Assistant City Manager Tony Mazzucco has left the building and Caribou City Manager Austin Bleess isn’t sure if he’s going to find a replacement.
“There’s no firm plan at the moment. I think we owe it to the staff and citizens of Caribou to see what we need in the next person. We need to see if we can get by without it. Budgets are always tight and due to the governor’s recent state budget proposal, I don’t think it’s prudent to hire a new assistant city manager before we know what’s coming down the pike,” Bleess said Monday.

Demolition for one

Former Birds Eye site building to come down

    CARIBOU, Maine — One building of the former Birds Eye vegetable processing plant on the corner of Fort Street and Route 1 may be coming down soon through force, rather than gravity.
City Council and city administration put forth efforts in 2014 particularly to require property owner Steven R. Nasiff, of the Massachusetts-based Nasiff Land LLC, to clean up the former industrial site. Through the state’s Dangerous Building statute, Nasiff was ordered to adhere to a remediation timeline that included demolishing the buildings by Oct. 31 of 2014.

New manager, new staff at Limestone Town Office

    LIMESTONE, Maine — Limestone’s new town manager has been at the helm since Jan. 5, 2015 and is no stranger to The County, having served as Madawaska’s town manager from 2004 to the end of 2005.
