Ski racing series opens in Madawaska

MADAWASKA, Maine — On a crisp and clear Sunday, approximately 65 energetic and enthusiastic people of all ages and ability levels participated in the 2015 Deprey Classic 6.5K freestyle races, tour and kids’ races at the Four Seasons Lodge Jan. 11.
The season opener this year, and in most years, the Deprey Classic heralded the start of the Aroostook Cup, a race series that travels around Aroostook County and includes six races over the course of the ski season.

Viking cheerleaders second in County

    CARIBOU, Maine — Five varsity teams from around the County performed at Caribou High School on Friday for the 24th annual Aroostook League Cheering Championship.
The Caribou, Central Aroostook, Houlton, Fort Fairfield and Presque Isle varsity teams hit the floor in front of packed bleachers filled with a roaring crowd of friends, family members and fellow students for the competition.

Local brothers graduate officer academy

BRUNSWICK, Maine — Two local firefighters were among 15 to complete the rigorous training of the Fire Service Institute Officer Training Academy, preparing for leadership roles at fire departments across the state, as they graduated on Jan. 17, 2015 during a Southern Maine Community College Ceremony.

Second-graders’ sealants help keep smiles sparkling
