Caribou’s newspaper started in 1880

When a young attorney published the first edition of the Aroostook Republican on Jan. 14, 1880, Caribou citizens may have questioned their newspaper’s chance of success. After all, they may have reasoned, the town’s first newspaper survived just two years before being bought out by Presque Isle investors and moved across the town line.

Toys for Tots appreciates support

To the editor:
This year the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots of Northern Aroostook County was able to deliver over 3,000 toys to over 2,600 children. We would like to extend a special thank you to the Subways restaurants of Ft. Kent and Madawaska who creatively used dress down days to raise money to donate to the Christmas Campaign.
