Challenge Series kicks off in Houlton

    The annual Wild Katahdin Trust Snow Run was held Saturday in conjunction with the Moosestompers Weekend. Thirty-one “hardy” runners and 14 “fearless” walkers, noted Larry Tonzi, race organizer, braved the frigid conditions to run/walk the 5K course.

Caribou Nordic ski team captures Aroostook title

The Caribou boys and girls Nordic teams and the Fort Kent boys and girls alpine teams were the big winners in the Aroostook League skiing championships held last week.
The Vikings swept both the classical and freestyle meets, with the classical held last Tuesday at the Nordic Heritage Center and the freestyle at the Fort Kent Outdoor Center Thursday.
In the classical, individual titles went to Presque Isle’s Noah Rossignol, who won the 5K race in 18:32.6, and Caribou’s Sarah Doak in 21:26.7.

Maine Winter Sports Center kicks off $20 million endowment campaign with major gift

    CARIBOU — Presque Isle native Mary Barton Smith, whose $500,000 matching gift last February kicked off a successful $1.4 million fund-raising campaign and gave the Maine Winter Sports Center new life, has given a $2,000,000 gift and an additional $3,000,000 matching gift to kick off MWSC’s $20 million endowment campaign.

Argument over parking space results in arrest of Caribou man

Union 122 directors review policy updates

    WESTMANLAND, Maine — The Union 122 school board met at the home of Pat Anderson last Thursday to discuss policy updates and announce the opening of a technology coordinator position.
Policies concerning public participation at board meetings, substitute teachers, home schooling, suspension, and the Child Find mandate, which ensures that all students with special needs receive the appropriate assistance, passed their first reading.

Commissioners receive ‘clean’ county audit
