RSU teachers seeking time to prepare for proficiency-based learning

    CARIBOU, Maine — RSU 39 Superintendent, Susan White, presented school board members with a preliminary school calendar for 2015-16 during a March 4 board meeting. Her calendar included five early release days, which caused some concern with board members.

Four killed in two-car wreck on Rt. 161

Maine State Police have released the names of four people who were killed Monday morning in a head-on collision involving an SUV and a sedan on Route 161, north of Caribou.

Architect hired for RSU 39 building project

    CARIBOU, Maine — It’s still unknown whether RSU 39 will receive repairs for its aging schools or a brand new facility, but at least they know who will design the major capital school construction project.

Secessionists submit petition to City Council, move toward goal of splitting up Caribou

    CARIBOU, Maine — Turning one northern Maine municipality into two moved a step closer to reality on Monday night.
Members of the Caribou Secession Committee submitted their petition to leave Caribou and take 80 percent of its landmass with them.
“Tonight, after nearly nine months of circulating our petition and tabulating the results, we are submitting it to you for certification by the city clerk,” said Secession Committee Spokesperson Paul Camping.

Have you been considering “giving back” to your community or helping seniors and/or veterans? As the new Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) coordinator of volunteers for Caribou, Limestone, Washburn, Van Buren, Fort Fairfield, Woodland, New Sweden and Stockholm, I encourage community members 55 and older to consider the possibilities and benefits of volunteering.

Lawmakers recently had the opportunity to meet with nearly 100 employers, workers, students and community leaders during our three day jobs tour in Aroostook County. We were grateful for the opportunity to listen and hear from so many people.
