County EMA highlights necessity of cyber security

    CARIBOU, Maine — The Aroostook County Emergency Management Agency has set their sights on cyber security and wants local businesses to be aware of the dangers that lurk in the digital realm.
“Cyber security is something we’ve been concerned with for quite some time,” said Darren Woods, director of Aroostook County EMA. Woods has taken cyber security training in Portland and he’s learning every day how EMA can help.

Woodland responds to RSU 39 invite

    WOODLAND, Maine — At the March 6th Union 122 school board meeting, Superintendent Karla Michaud shared with the board a letter from RSU 39’s superintendent, Susan White, about Caribou’s capital improvement project to build a new preK-8 learning facility.

Fire chief to public: install smoke detectors, have a fire drill

     CARIBOU, Maine — March is American Red Cross month and local chapters are using the time to stress the importance of fire safety.
The American Red Cross plans to reduce fire deaths by 25 percent within the next five years. They’re asking homeowners to take two simple steps: install smoke detectors and have a fire drill.

Teacher makes time to volunteer with Red Cross

Lori Knight-Phair was only 5 years old when she knew without a doubt that she wanted to become a teacher.
She was so committed to becoming a teacher she started providing educational lessons to her cat.
Now into a 17-year teaching career, that same insightful and dedicated 5-year-old knew she wanted to be a Red Cross volunteer.

Democrats should put their actions where their mouths are

    First and foremost, 26 states, including Maine — thanks to Gov. LePage — have stopped the President’s lawless and unconstitutional overreach on immigration.
In January, I voted in support of a bill that would fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), while also defunding the President’s unilateral executive action on immigration.    Sen. Harry Reid and his Democrats blocked this vote.

So wrote T. S. Eliot — but ‘round these here parts, February certainly wasn’t very kind either! It was expensive and downright uncomfortable.
Well, it turns out there’s a pretty good reason it felt so cold, it actually was the coldest February on record at Caribou! And records go all the way back to when the “Wizard of Oz” came out, 1939.
