Why we like Garry’s Mod

Jordan Thompson
& Morgan McDougal
Grades 5 & 7, Caswell
Garry’s Mod is a very interesting game. Like other games it’s not expensive. Some games cost up to $50.00 for something that’s not even worth it. If you buy Garry’s Mod on Steam, which is a gaming program, it’s only $15.00. If you buy it during the Steam Holiday Sale like we did it’s around only $9.00.
It’s really different from other games. There are things called game modes. game modes are different versions of the game within the game. For example the normal game mode is called sandbox. In sandbox you have access to everything.

Why Art is the Best

Dawson St. Pierre
& Morgan Fuller
Grades 2 & 6, Caswell
Dawson and Morgan like art because you get to be really crafty. To us being crafty is awesome. We think others should like art too. Because colorful art is really pretty and nice.
The first reason we think art is the best is because we like to paint, and painting is a big part of art. Many artists create famous paintings.
Our second reason is we get to make cool drawings. To us,drawing is fun because you can draw your feelings. You can express your feelings by drawing a sad picture if you are sad and a happy picture if it you are happy.

Important people and places in our lives

By Landan Corbin
Grade 3, Teague Park
My grandfather is a firefighter and he is important to me. Why? He is important because he helps other people. He fights fires and he could die from that. He risks his life. He lives in Pennsylvania and he is a Pennsylvania fire fighter.

Grade 3, Teague Park
My Mom and Dad are my heroes because they keep me and my sister Hailie alive and they help others. My Mom, Kim, works to give people oxygen. My Dad, James, fixes computers for people to work. I love them!
By Dylan Bouchard
Grade 3, Teague Park
I have a bunch of heroes. One of my heroes are my friends. They always help me when I get hurt. Animals help the world giving nectar and if we didn’t have bees, we wouldn’t have flowers. Trees give us oxygen so we can breathe. Trees are very helpful to us, so do not cut trees down because it is ruining the world!
By Calvin Hersey
Grade 3, Teague Park
I am thankful for my Mom and Dad because they play with me. They take care of me and they feed me. They give me toys and they love me! They are the best parents because they do stuff with me like fishing, ice fishing, hunting, swimming and having fun with me. That’s why I love them!
By Kayla Marshall
Grade 3, Teague Park
One of my heroes is my brother, Dylan Greenier. He is my hero because he is a firefighter and he saves lives. My second hero is my cat, Henry. He is my hero because when I’m sad and not feeling good, he lays with me. He curls up with me.

Spongebob

Isaiah Theriault & Abby Moore Grades 5 &7, Caswell
We think Spongebob is the best show ever, because it is funny. One reason why we think it is funny is because when they get hurt, they just poof back to normal. How crazy is that! Another reason why is because they sing the road song, and as they sing the road song they are riding a giant fly that dances. The second reason why we think Spongebob is the best show ever, is because it teaches kids how to use their imagination. Like in one episode Spongebob gets a new TV and then throws it out. Squidward asks for the TV and Spongebob said, “Yes.” Spongebob and Patrick used the box from the TV and started pretending they were hunting treasure on an island. When Squidward tried nothing happened he thought there was a hidden button, but then it started to work. He was in a car racing. Turns out it wasn’t a car it was a garbage truck that dumped him at the dump.

New Sweden students write comparative essays

Winter
vs. Summer

By Angela Butterfield
New Sweden, Grade 6
Summer is better than winter.  Summer it is nice and warm, but the winter it is cold and people get sick. The roads in summer are nice and dry, the winter roads are icy and people can get in crashes easier than summer.
Summer is better than winter because when you go to school in summer you can wear shirts, shorts, and flip flops. In winter since it is cold out you need to wear hats, mittens, snow pants, boots, and if you  want, a scarf.
Winter is cold and  kids and adults can get the flu and other sicknesses. The winter can have ice form and people can slip and get hurt. When people fall they have a chance of breaking a bone or get a bone sprained.
In the summer people who like to swim can go swimming. If you like to bike, play tennis, and golf summer would be best. If you tried those things in winter it really wouldn’t work out because the bike would be froze and the tennis court might be icy.
Some families go down state for the holidays in winter, they must make sure that they are driving slowly and safely. In the summer if you like to go for trips, you have a better chance to go than winter because the roads aren’t so bad and not so slippery.  In summer the roads aren’t that bad so you can go the regular speed than in the winter.
The reason I like summer better than winter is because you can get places on time,  walk more often, and wear flip flops and different types of clothing. The reason I don’t really like winter is because it is cold and slippery. Summer is when my birthday is so that’s another reason why I like summer.

Seventh- and eighth-grade writers interview Mr. Boody

How well do you know your bus driver? Our class interviewed our bus driver, Mr. Boody, to learn more about him.
Mr. Boody, a resident of New Sweden, visited this town for many years as a child until he decided to move here in 1984. His grandfather and his grandfather’s sister were born in Sweden. Later, the sister, Mr. Boody’s great aunt, moved to New Sweden, Maine to a 90-acre farm on the Madawaska Road.
He was born and raised in Wakefield, Massachusetts. He has a sister that is 13 years older than him. And his three brothers are also older than him.
While growing up, Mr. Boody always liked playing baseball. However, he didn’t like Little League because he thought “the coaches were too hard on the kids.” He also enjoyed riding his bicycle. He rode to his girlfriend’s house and to the pond to go fishing.
Mr. Boody started music lessons in grade three. He started with Mr. Mayo who taught him how to read music but then told him “You need a violin teacher.” He saw his mother playing the violin and that’s why he loves the violin. He took lessons in Boston every week, which meant he had to travel by himself on the bus or train.
His first job was one that might creep many people out because they are scared of insects.  He would pick Japanese beetles out of his father’s garden for one cent every ten beetles. So if he got 50 beetles that day, he could go and get a candy bar! When he was ten, he delivered newspapers six days a week. While in high school, he was a maintenance worker at McDonald’s. He had to clean the rest rooms but at least he got free meals.
