Defending champs split doubleheader

The Caribou Vikings made the trip to Bangor to take on John Bapst in season-opening doubleheaders Saturday. Both Caribou teams came away with splits.
Gunnar Bondeson scattered eight hits and didn’t walk a batter to help the defending Eastern Maine champion Caribou baseball team prevail in game one, 8-1.
He struck out eight and was supported by Spencer McDuffie, who drove in three runs. Noah Frost added two hits while Jacob Burby and Jared Fox each drove in two runs. A five-run rally in the fifth inning broke the game open.

Snowdogs successful in state tournament

The Snowdogs are back from another memorable trip to the Special Olympics state basketball tournament.
The Blue team won the Silver medal in Div. I and the White team won the bronze medal in Div. 2.  Coach Brian Hamel said there was some great and very stiff competition this year, with three more teams added to the field of competitors.

Jeremiah’s Team wins hoop title

CARIBOU, Maine — Jeremiah’s Team went through the playoff bracket undefeated to win the Caribou Men’s Basketball League title.
The squad defeated Griffeth Ford in the finals in overtime, 72-60, on April 15 at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center gymnasium.

May is the month to talk turkey

MAINELY OUTDOORS

    A vast number of Aroostook sportsmen wait anxiously day by day for ice out on regional lakes each May, and the few weeks of terrific trolling that follows. Crown of Maine hunters, however, enjoy far fewer spring options. Up until fairly recently, it has been necessary to travel to southern Maine or another New England state for the popular challenge of turkey hunting.

Andrew Bouchard of Presque Isle became an IFPA Pro Bodybuilder April 4 by taking the overall win at the Organization of Competitive Bodybuilders’ Pine Tree State Bodybuilding, Figure and Bikini Championships.

    CARIBOU — The following cases were heard at the Aroostook County Superior Court during the month of January.    Graydon E. Adams Jr., 53, St. Agatha: criminal trespass, dismissed.    Leigh Albert, 41, Presque Isle: unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, dismissed.
