Chamber taking strawberry shortcake orders

    PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Calling all taste buds, the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce is now taking orders for their annual strawberry shortcake sale, scheduled for Thursday, June 25.
“There’s no better way to kick off the start of summer than sinking your teeth into some juicy strawberries, whipped cream and fluffy biscuits. Get ready, because it’s time for our annual Strawberry Shortcake Day,” said Theresa Fowler, executive director of the Chamber.

Desmond named student of year

CARIBOU, Maine — Officials at the Caribou Regional Technology Center recently announced that health and medical sciences student Macy Desmond has been selected as the outstanding Career and Technology Education student of the year for 2015.
Desmond, a Presque Isle high school student, is the daughter of Kelly and Mark Desmond of Mapleton.

RSU makes dual credit deal with UMPI

    CARIBOU, Maine – Caribou High School and the Caribou Regional Technology Center have struck a deal with the University of Maine at Presque Isle to offer a dual credit program for students.
Offering dual credits is something Caribou High School and Caribou Regional Technology Center has done for a while now. This past year the high school and tech center added a dual credit partnership with University of Maine at Fort Kent alongside their partnership with Northern Maine Community College, which has been in place for almost ten years, according to Caribou Regional Technology Center guidance counselor Tracy Corbin.

Adult Ed grads learn knowledge is power

    CARIBOU, Maine — A second chance at a better life came in the form of a HiSET diploma at the Caribou Learning Center on May 19, 2015.
Students of the RSU 39 Eastern Aroostook Adult and Community Education program sat in a classroom at the learning center that day. Some waited for their gowns to get ironed and others chatted with friends before their graduation ceremony.

    CARIBOU, Maine — The Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery has gained a new ally in the fight for veterans’ services.
Adria Horn, the new director for the Bureau of Maine Veterans’ Services, stopped by the Caribou cemetery on May 15, 2015 for her first meet-and-greet with local veterans and cemetery committee members.

Ride Aroostook ready to mark 5th anniversary

CARIBOU, Maine — Ride Aroostook, a two-day cycling tour of Aroostook County, is getting ready to mark a significant milestone when the event takes place July 11 and 12 based at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. This year will be the fifth anniversary of the ride, which is held to benefit Camp Adventure, a summer camp for children ages 12-17 with type 1 diabetes.

Wind helps firemen succeed

    CARIBOU, Maine — A forest fire that engulfed a wooded area adjacent to a back field near 330 Belanger Road in Caribou was put to rest on Memorial Day thanks to the efforts of the Maine Forest Service and members of the Caribou Fire Department.
