Echoes issue features German war brides and favorite cows

     To describe growing up in Germany between 1930 and 1950 is not an easy task, “if the scenario is written for an audience that has never personally suffered under a dictatorship or felt the horror of total war.”

     But a writer published in the current edition of Echoes magazine has undertaken that task in the first of a series of articles titled “Irmgard: A German girl comes to Maine.”

UNE, KeyBank partner to combat dental provider shortage

     PORTLAND, Maine — For over a decade, Maine oral health stakeholders and concerned residents have been developing a comprehensive plan to respond to the dramatic shortage of dentists in the state. With 15 of its 16 counties identified as dental health shortage areas and a high percentage of its practicing dentists reaching retirement age within the next five to 10 years, Maine received a much needed boost in heading off its dental crisis in 2013 with the opening of the University of New England’s College of Dental Medicine, the first dental college in Maine and all of northern New England.

Gerakaris wins silver medals at 2 summer events

    Axios Gerakaris, captain of the Caribou varsity wrestling team, fought for a second-place medal at the Summer Windjammer Wrestling Championships in Camden and also took second at the Belfast Duals in Belfast. The tournaments were held July 11 and 12.
