TCL director appointed to environmental board

CARIBOU, Maine — Mark Draper of Caribou, the solid waste director for Tri-Community Landfill, has been appointed to a four-year term on the Maine Board of Environmental Protection (BEP).  Draper was nominated by Gov. LePage and subsequently confirmed by the Maine Legislature.

County awarded $37,862 for emergency programs

     PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Aroostook County has been chosen to receive $37,862 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs. The selection was made by a national board that is chaired by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Soccer officials’ clinic

The Northern Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials will sponsor a clinic for prospective soccer officials on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 8:30 a.m. until mid-afternoon in the ski building at the Caribou High School athletic complex.

Charity Challenge raises funds for Special Olympics

     The 27th annual Cloukey’s Charity Challenge Golf Tournament, held June 18 and 19, 2015, was another huge success. The unique format includes four separate nine-hole scrambles with prizes awarded after the event. All money raised from the event goes to Aroostook County Special Olympics.

Local team wins Class E men’s softball tourney

The County Boys/Anderson’s Store men’s slo-pitch softball team, made up of players mainly from the New Sweden/Stockholm/Woodland area, captured the Northern Maine Class E State Tournament held July 18 at the Teague Park softball field.
