Career posting website reaches 150-job mark

     CARIBOU – The Opportunities Aroostook job posting website that grew out of the Aroostook Partnership for Progress “Education to Industry” initiative is now nine months old and continues to grow. Currently there are more than 150 jobs posted and employers are reporting finding success in utilizing the site.

Do not judge; you can’t always tell a book by its cover

 

     The truck was nothing short of immaculate. We sat in silence, appreciating that new vehicle scent while we ran our fingers carefully over the soft padded dashboard and heated leather seats. When we did speak, it was in short whispers and high energy sighs.

Passionate support for students exploring career choices

To the editor:

Eastern Aroostook RSU 39 is proud to announce our recent inclusion in the GEAR-UP Maine grant. Beginning in the spring of 2015, RSU 39 was awarded a grant to work collaboratively with the University of Maine at Farmington to support students as they graduate from high school and follow their dreams for postsecondary training and career preparation.

Caribou charter is unconstitutional

To the editor:

Two sections of the Caribou City Charter are unconstitutional. The limit on what its residents can petition for and one (1) of the restrictions on who can run for City Council both should never have been allowed into the charter.

Fortunate to live in a small town

To the editor:

     I have been struggling to find the words to express my sincere gratitude for the response to our cry for help when our son went missing. I wish to thank all of the emergency personnel and the friends and neighbors who were here that night and the next morning.

Businesses urged to back tax credit reauthorization

CARIBOU — A federal tax incentive, which has helped dozens of Aroostook County businesses, is up for renewal in Congress and officials with the Northern Maine Development Commission (NMDC) are urging businesses to send letters to the congressional delegation in support of reauthorization.
