While 5K races are becoming more common throughout The County, runners who want to take on a more challenging road race have had few local opportunities to do so. With the creation of a new Maine Running Festival on Aug. 30, runners can now face that challenge, all while taking in the beauty that is Northern Maine.
Six of the events making up the County Challenge Road Racing Series have been completed, with Curtis Wheeler of New Sweden and Thomas Beckum of Caribou tied for the lead in the men’s standings and Angela Ewings of Littleton the women’s overall leader so far.
With the fall sports season now under way, the newspaper is asking the help of all of its coaches in reporting results in a timely manner.
Caribou boys win twice
The Caribou Middle School boys’ soccer team bested Fort Fairfield and Fort Kent in games played last week.

Of all the types of outdoorsmen, anglers and hunters tend to be a unique breed unto their own. Each one of us in the cast and blast fraternity know several boat buddies or camp companions that display at least one or perhaps all of the foibles. Truth be told, we are that character.
CARIBOU, Maine — There should be plenty of motivation for the Viking boys’ varsity soccer team heading into the season.
The team is coming off a disappointing 2014, having gone just 2-10-2 and missing out on the playoffs.
The roster has a much different look than last year’s, but that shouldn’t prevent the Viking girls from being competitive in the Eastern Maine Class B ranks this fall.
Town officials and residents who led a wind power committee are gearing up for a robust debate about regulating potential wind turbines, among other things through the rest of the year.
