UMPI Outing Club slates fall events

     PRESQUE ISLE, Maine —The University of Maine at Presque Isle Outing Club is offering fall adventures and activities for campus and community members to enjoy, including an overnight camping weekend complete with a hike to Katahdin as well as an outdoor rock climbing trip.

Late-semester classes start Monday at NMCC

     PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — For only the second time ever, Northern Maine Community College is offering a “late start semester” for the general public.  For those who missed the enrollment deadline for the fall semester, who may have been engaged in summer employment, or for those who have decided not to wait until spring to get started on their college degree, the late start semester extends one more opportunity.

Ashland girls soccer team defeats Fort Fairfield in battle of unbeatens

     FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — With the score tied 1-1 at halftime, the Ashland Hornets pushed their game to a higher level for the first 20 minutes of the second half. They were rewarded with a pair of goals and held on for a 3-2 girls soccer victory over the Fort Fairfield Tigers last Tuesday.

Hunting helping hands for ‘haunted’ PI tours

     PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Historical Society is gearing up for its fourth annual Haunted Lantern Tours.  The tours, which are held on the evenings of Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 feature both walking and trolley tours showcasing the “slightly scary and kinda creepy true tales” of historic downtown Presque Isle just in time for Halloween.

DHHS awards health funds to County providers

U.S. Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) announced Monday that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded a total of $5,748,561 in grant funding to support rural health centers across Maine, including two local entities.
