     CARIBOU, Maine — In an effort to cut down on the number of Aroostook County home fires, Cary Medical Center and the northern and eastern Maine chapters of the American Red Cross held a Fire Preparedness Program press conference last week in the hospital’s Chan Education Center.

Radio station founder had newspaper roots

To the editor:

     The trouble with getting your information from Wikipedia is that it not always correct.  This should be particularly embarrassing for the Star-Herald since the founder of WEGP has not, as Wikipedia asserts, an engineer with WAGM-TV, he was the publisher of the local weekly newspaper.

The education of Lyndon’s students

To the editor:

     Citizens who reside in the Lyndon Secession Territory have asked us to explain how their children will get their education. The answer to that questions is simple. They will receive exactly the same education they are receiving today. Students will attend the same schools and ride the same buses as they always have.

Be kind to one another

I checked the pocket of my capri pants at least four more times before I finally broke down and told the clerk I absolutely, positively could not find my debit card. My groceries, which had been whizzing by me on the conveyer belt, were now at a standstill.

Governor signs critical transportation bond bill

     AUGUSTA, Maine — Governor Paul R. LePage signed into law LD 1415, An Act To Authorize Two General Fund Bond Issues To Improve Highways, Bridges and Multimodal Facilities, which authorizes an $85 million bond package for transportation projects that will improve infrastructure, promote economic development and create jobs in the State of Maine.
