Maine’s senators urge support for ARCH aid

U.S. Senators Susan Collins, Angus King and Jerry Moran (R-KS) have sent a letter to Robert McDonald, secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, urging him to provide support for the crucial Access Received Closer to Home (ARCH) program for veterans who live in rural communities.

Honor Flight Maine honors Maine’s 45 WWII veterans with trip to D.C.

     AUGUSTA, Maine — Coordinators of Honor Flight Maine announced recently that 45 Maine veterans were able to take a trip to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials built to honor their service and sacrifice to the nation. It was the fifth Honor Flight trip to be planned and executed for veterans currently living in Maine.

Freedom of information worth fighting for

     Vital records are the backbone of genealogical research.  Locating the birth, marriage, and death records of our ancestors is the goal of every genealogist and without at least one of these records your research will be difficult if not impossible.  This is especially true for new genealogists who don’t know a great deal about their family tree.

The love and humor of bingo in Maine

     I have traveled the entire state of Maine to enjoy bingo games. It is a fantastic pastime especially for senior citizens. It is great to see younger people attending these games also. But for Seniors it is the best pastime at a fair cost. Usually the money spent on bingo helps the VFW, Legions and local fund providers. It kills many birds with one stone, just saying…

A new view of addiction

Not long ago an admitted addict wrote a letter to the Aroostook Republican explaining the horrors of her struggle with addiction and telling us she believes the answer to our meth problem is to ban Sudafed and other nasal decongestants that contain pseudoephedrine in our local pharmacies so no one has access to the ingredients to make meth.

     When the world’s top biathletes converge on northern Maine this coming February for the 2016 International Biathlon Union World Cup, some of their top supporters in the stands at Presque Isle’s Nordic Heritage Center will be schoolchildren from throughout the region.
