MPBN pull plug on airing high school basketball games

      AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Principals Association announced last Tuesday its 36-year relationship with the Maine Public Broadcasting Network appears to be over and it is seeking bidders to broadcast high school tournament basketball games.

Flynn commits to play hockey at UMaine

     Presque Isle High School’s Jillian Flynn, who was selected the All-Eastern Maine Class B second-team ice hockey goalie last winter and helped her team to the Eastern Maine championship game as a sophomore, has verbally committed to attend the University of Maine.

Woodland man gets 10 years for selling bath salts

     WOODLAND, Maine — A local man will spend the next decade behind bars for selling synthetic bath salts after MDEA agents found him with more than $300,000 worth of the hallucinogenic drug during a 2014 raid at his home, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Nov. 4, 2015.

Medical center recognized with straight A’s for safety

     CARIBOU, Maine — Cary Medical Center has been recognized for its dedication to patient safety by being awarded an A grade in the Fall 2015 Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from preventable medical errors, injuries and infections within the hospital.

Bowl-A-Thon raises $2,929 for Ronald McDonald Houses

     Recently over 50 attendees tied up their bowling shoes at Northern Lanes in Presque Isle for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine annual Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser. The Oct. 25, 2015 event raised $2,929 to support the families of critically ill children from Aroostook County served last year by the facilities in Bangor and Portland.

Fort student receives scholarship

     FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The Chet Jordan Leadership Award Fund of the Maine Community Foundation has awarded scholarships to four students, all graduates of Maine high schools.
