Bring back the old format

To the editor:

     I am enclosing a format as to what I think a Caribou Winter Carnival can be. I would like to have you print this format in your paper so that everyone can see what a Winter Carnival can do for Caribou. We don’t have many activities in the winter months and having a Winter Carnival would certainly be one of them and often spoken of.

Gimme FLIVE!

 

     Over the years, in my presentations to schools and groups, I have covered a wide range of weather hazards, from hurricanes to ice jam flooding to tornados. Recently, however, I’ve decided to get a bit more specific, focusing on weather hazards that people living right here in The County are most likely to encounter.  I have come up with a five-letter acronym for five key hazards, “key” because these hazards have the capacity to injure or kill.The acronym is “FLHIV”, which conveniently sounds like “five”, since there are five of them!

1941: Currier takes the reins

115 Years Ago – Dec. 11, 1901

     Salmon — Quite a few landlocked salmon fingerlings from the Caribou hatchery have been placed in different waters during the past two weeks. Some 5,200 were released in Nickerson lake, 3,400 in Drew’s lake, 3,000 in Spider lake and 3,000 in Munsungan lake.

Rotary declares fifth Polio Day a success

     PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — With the help of Rotary Clubs in Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Limestone, Mars Hill and Washburn, the University of Maine at Presque Isle and the Presque Isle Rotary Club have declared the fifth annual World Polio Day and Purple Pinkie Project celebration, held Oct. 22-29 throughout central Aroostook, an overwhelming success.
