     One of the pleasures of representing the great State of Maine is traveling all over the state to visit family farms, small businesses, manufacturers, and entrepreneurs who are carving out a niche for their products, goods, and services. There is a well-deserved “mystique” about Maine products that connotes high quality, terrific service, and creativity.

Classes to offer home ownership advice

     PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Aroostook County Action Program, Inc. (ACAP) has announced the schedule for homeownership classes in 2016. Classes will be taught by Gary “Sonny” Sirois, a certified hoMEworks Homeownership Education Provider with a background in community service as well as public housing programs.

Student spellers to compete in district-wide bee

     FORT KENT, Maine — Young wordsmiths will test their skills next this week when the University of Maine at Fort Kent Office of Community Education hosts the Northern District (Aroostook County) Scripps National Spelling Bee competition for middle school students on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at UMFK’s Fox Auditorium.

Joseph Roland Cyr

     HALLOWELL — Joseph Roland Donat Cyr, 86, of Winthrop Street, and formerly of Caribou, ME, died January 22, 2016 at the VA Togus Springs, Augusta, after a long illness.  He was born at home in Keegan on November 13, 1929, one of 11 children of Donat Cyr and Yvonne (St. Amand) Cyr.
