1966: Sunday liquor and beer referendum in hands of voters

115 Years Ago – Feb. 13, 1901

     Broken chin — Friday afternoon, George Scott, janitor of the high school building, cut his chin on broken glass. He was on a stepladder, having in his hand an unlighted kerosene lamp, which he was about to put in its place, when the stepladder broke and Mr. Scott fell to the floor. Mr. Scott received a few slight cuts on the chin caused by the broken glass.

Regulatory Reform: Unleashing our nation’s job creators

     When I ask employers in Maine what Washington needs to do to help them add jobs, they tell me this: reduce the cost and complexity of the federal regulations imposed on them. And this is not just a concern voiced by Maine businesses. Earlier this year, a poll of small business owners across the country found that the vast majority aren’t hiring new workers right now, and more than six in ten pointed to government regulations as the reason why.

Sterilization and networking go hand in hand

     Halfway Home Pet Rescue has networked with several southern Maine shelters/pet rescues for the past four years as well as spaying and neutering about 400 cats per year in this central Aroostook County area.
