Listening to the several presidential debates recently, I have growing concern about the rise of socialism in this country. We have the largest military force in the world, with bases, or at least military influence on every continent.

Senior housing at a crisis point

To the editor:

Despite passage months ago, the Housing Bond funds earmarked for older Mainers in need of affordable housing have yet to be released. Maine State Housing Authority awaits word from Governor LePage. Meanwhile, older, vulnerable Mainers, many of whom have been kept in limbo for years, continue to wait for a home they can afford.

Hillary has what it takes

To the editor:

We live on the border with Canada, where campaigns for Prime Minister take 30 to 60 days at the most. We’re envious because our country is now in campaign-mode year round. We have to listen to electioneering ad nauseam even when the people have spoken at the polls.
