PI teams sweep competition at indoor soccer tournament

      CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department hosted its fourth annual High School-Age Indoor Soccer Tournament on Saturday March 26, 2016. This event has grown to be a great day of soccer for area high school soccer players. The girls’ tournament was played in the morning and included seven teams from around the area — Ashland, Fort Kent, Presque Isle, two teams from Caribou and two from Madawaska.

     Hours at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday from noon-4 p.m. The facility is closed Sundays.

Screening offered tonight of film ‘Acadians of the St. John Valley’

     VAN BUREN, Maine — Cary Medical Center’s Healthy You Program invites the community to join them Wednesday, March 30, 2016, for a free community heritage film screening of “Acadians Of the St. John Valley” by Crown of Maine Productions at 6 p.m. in the Van Buren High School Auditorium.

Catholic Charities nets national grant

     CARIBOU, Maine — Catholic Charities Maine’s Hunger and Relief Services program has received a $39,559 grant from Catholic Charities USA as part of the national organization’s efforts to fund activities that expand outreach to rural communities. The grant was made possible thanks to funding from the Walmart Foundation.

Maine Crime Victims’ Rights to be celebrated on April 10

     AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children will be hosting its 12th annual National Crime Victims’ Rights Week celebration on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Calumet Club, 334 W. River Road (Rte.104) in Augusta. The event will begin with a luncheon from 12-1 p.m. There is no cost to attend and all are welcome.

Company contributes to vets cemetery effort

Katahdin Trust raises over $10,000 for the Red Cross
