     Good fishing — William P. Allen, Esq., of this village, and J.P. Yerxa of Upsala were among the most successful fishermen. They arrived in Caribou Monday evening with about 50 pounds of trout and togue, the result of a day’s finishing on Cross and Square lakes.

     Spring in full abundance —The delicious fiddlehead is once again abundant, plum trees and dandelions in full blossom, lawn mowers are being heard around town, and graduating exercises of the Caribou grammar school will occur in Clark’s Hall Friday evening of this week.

     The open-meeting section of Maine’s Freedom of Access Act often is taken for granted, but it was conceptualized by common citizens. For example, Aldene Gordon was a newspaper reporter who championed the enactment of the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law and testified for its passage in 1958.

Students net Yale opportunity

Megan Bouley and Jordan Theriault to attend college for three weeks

     Two students from Aroostook County high schools have been selected to receive full scholarships to attend Exploration Summer Programs (EXPLO) at Yale University for three weeks in July and August 2016.

Retired Educators plan new programs

     The Aroostook Retired Educators Association executive board has determined the programs and dates for the 2016 summer meetings. The June 28 meeting will be held at the Meduxnekeag Ramblers Snowmobile Club in Littleton and will feature music selections performed by Chloe Wheeler and a presentation by John Kosinski speaking on the “Stand Up for Students” program.
