Looking for my relatives

To the editor:

     I am searching for any information I might find about my grandmother Juliette Violette. She was born in April 1900 in Van Buren, Maine. Her father was Alphonse Violette. She married a man named Arthur Hachey and went to live in Edmundston, New Brunswick. They had three children — a son and two daughters.

Town office looks great!

To the editor: I had to pay $3 extra to get my new registration stickers at the town office or I could have saved the $3 if I drove over to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to get my stickers. That does not make sense for elderly people, as it is an extra wait. Also, […]

More on the subject of fiddleheads

To the editor:

     Last week Robert Beaulieu of Mapleton wrote in concerned about undue regulatory burdens and training requirements for fiddlehead pickers, possibly contributing to over harvesting. As one of the people involved in providing the trainings, I wanted to write in and clarify the purpose and the content of those sessions.

UMFK holds 134th commencement

     FORT KENT, Maine — The University of Maine at Fort Kent graduating seniors received their degrees at the 134th commencement exercises held at UMFK on May 14, 2016. University President John N. Short presided over the ceremony that conferred 191 baccalaureate degrees and 27 associate degrees.
