Pleasant graduation — A very pleasant reception was tendered with the graduating class of the high school. Members of the alumni and school were requested to form for a march. Music was furnished by Palmer’s orchestra, and a most enjoyable social time was participated in by all present.

Without virtue, freedom fails

Civic virtue — or the loss of civic virtue — doesn’t make the top ten list of issues pollsters ask voters to rank. But I suspect many, if not most, Americans are doing a fair amount of private handwringing these days about our collective descent into the proverbial mud.

Census-takers are only human

Do you suspect your ancestor was snatched by aliens in flying saucers when a U.S. census after 1840 was taken? Caregivers need support

I recently held a “Caregiver Conversation” in Wells and I’m hoping that others in Maine may wish to do the same. Celebrating efforts to feed hungry

Bishop Robert P. Deeley visits Caribou to showcase relief programs

CARIBOU, Maine — In celebration of the Year of Mercy, Bishop Robert P. Deeley traveled to Caribou recently to showcase two programs which are helping to feed the hungry of Aroostook County.

At the parish hall facility at Holy Rosary Church, Bishop Deeley put the finishing touches on fiddlehead soup as a way to celebrate the success of the “Power of Green,” a nutrition program offered last year at St. Mary of the Visitation Parish in Houlton. Funded by a grant from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, the course educated people about basic nutrition and taught them how to cook healthy meals.
