Troop F Report

HOULTON — The Maine State Police Troop F barracks in Houlton responded to 144 calls for service including over 50 incidents of crashes and vehicles off the road as a result of back-to-back snowstorms during the week of Nov. 28-Dec. 4:

 

Monday, November 28

– State Police responded to a crash on U.S. Route 1 in Grand Isle. An individual reported that a minivan had been struck by a tractor trailer, and the operator was currently trapped inside the vehicle. Trooper Curtin responded to the scene.

‘Light Is On’ invites reconciliation

PORTLAND, Maine — During this Advent season, all Maine Catholics are invited to experience God’s love, mercy and forgiveness through “The Light Is On for You,” which represents multiple opportunities to receive the sacrament of reconciliation.

At St. Mary of the Visitation Parish in Houlton, reconciliation will be offered Wednesday through Friday, Dec. 14 through 16, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Rotary Auction tops $55,000

HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Rotary Club is declaring the 61st Annual Radio and TV Auction a success. The auction this year grossed over $55,000 which includes money from the bidding, sale of oil tickets, advertising, sponsorships and donations, as well as the sale of six Boy and the Boot statues for the Houlton Regional Health Services Foundation.

Cooking with Susie Q- Slow cooker ‘baked’ chicken & slow cooker taco soup

I love the crock pot when the weather gets cooler and we get busy. Here are a couple of ones new to me. I had a young cook tell me she wanted to try a slow cooker chicken. I found a recipe that claims to taste like baked chicken and a friend also told me she uses halved potatos in place of the aluminum foil and occasional will add onions and carrots as well and ends up with a complete meal. I also had a reader send a recipe for her favorite Taco soup. Soup season is here!

 

Slow Cooker “Baked” Chicken

1 (2 to 3 pound) whole chicken
