Houlton Police Log Dec. 4-10, 2016

HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Police Department responded to the following incidents from Dec. 4-10.

 

Sunday, Dec. 4

1:52 a.m. — Off. Boutilier responded to North Street to investigate suspicious activity.

2:22 a.m. — Off. McGuire responded to Mill Street for a civil dispute.

What every sportsman needs for Christmas

It’s getting down to crunch time for Christmas shopping with only a few days remaining for final selections. In the big cities where there are multitudes of stores, malls and specialty shops that stay open late, even for the last-minute Christmas Eve shoppers, eleventh-hour purchases are no problem. Here in the Crown of Maine however, if it’s not available locally, a bit of lead time is a must.

Rec Department offers programs

HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Recreation Department will be offering the following programs:

Zumba Class — A new session of Zumba will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at the Houlton Recreation Department. This 8-week program will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. The instructor for this class is Rachel DiStefano. The cost is $45 for Houlton residents and $65 for non-Houlton residents. To register, call 532-1310 by Dec. 30. Space is limited to 20 participants.

Houlton Area AYBL signups on tap

HOULTON, Maine — Signups for seventh- and eighth-grade boys and girls AYBL are now ongoing. Aroostook Youth Basketball League (AYBL) is an organization committed to providing competitive basketball opportunities for youth in grades 3-8, serving as a feeder program for high school basketball teams.

Youth will have an opportunity to be on a team that plays a 10-14 game schedule, with games at home and away in towns like Presque Isle, Caribou, Madawaska, and Fort Kent.

Baseball camp slated for Houlton

HOULTON, Maine — Houlton High School is hosting a four-week baseball camp starting January 29. Houlton High School head coach Jim Castner will direct the program in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy.

Classes are available for players in grades 1-12 and are limited to seven players per coach.

SAMHA report

The Westerdahl’s Novice team played last weekend (Dec. 3-4, 2016) against Victoria-Tobique on Dec. 3 and Woodstock on Dec. 4. The kids are learning to pass and work as a team. Their skating and puck handling skills are improving each time out on the ice. They are getting the hang of offense and defense. Over all they are doing a great job and having a blast while doing it.

Sherman Seniors

On Dec. 7, 2016 the Sherman Area Senior Citizens met, opening with prayer and the Pledge to the Flag.

All shared a turkey dinner with all the trimmings and lots of pies. Everyone was stuffed and enjoyed it very much.
