Ark Animal Sanctuary

This holiday season, every time the mail or UPS or FedEx comes, we are reminded of just how lucky we are.

There are so many generous, kind and caring people out there with one goal in mind: to help the animals in our care. We cannot thank you enough for your kindness and support. Without each and every one of you, our work would not be possible.

Friday, Dec. 23 — Stuffed crust pizza (pepperoni or cheese), whole-kernel corn, applesauce cup, chocolate chip cookie.

Cary library hosts authors

HOULTON, Maine — Cary Library introduces the public to two Maine authors, Roger Guay of Guilford and Cathy Estabrook of Houlton.

Guay appeared Monday, Dec. 19, at MACS Trading Post and at the library. His book, “A Good Man with a Dog: A Retired Game Warden’s 25 Years in the Maine Woods,” takes readers into a warden’s world as he searches for lost hunters and hikers, re-creates poaching scenes, and more, with his brown Labrador retriever, Reba, by his side.

Act will assess border strength

U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced Dec. 15 that the president has signed the Northern Border Security Review Act, a bipartisan bill to assess and strengthen American security at the northern border, into law.

Local students earn top grades

Two local students recently achieved high grades for their work this fall.

Connor Grant of Houlton, a Falcon Scholar at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, Va., has earned a spot on the president’s list for the first quarter of the 2016-17 school year. Only students with a GPA of 4.0 or higher are named to the list.

He is the son of Fred and Renee Grant of Houlton, ME.

Merrill enjoys Christmas in The Park

MERRILL, Maine — Somewhere between 80 and 90 children attended the popular “Christmas In The Park” at Merrill Millstream Park Saturday, Dec 3, 2016. Near ideal conditions, with plenty of snow cover and mild weather, greeted those in attendance as Santa entered the park to the delight of all.

Festival raises more than $8,000 for HRH

HOULTON, Maine — Eighteen trees, 10 wreaths and one wooden snowman made Houlton Regional Hospital an extremely festive place to visit during the two weeks that the Health Services Foundation Christmas Festival presentations were on display.

“We are absolutely delighted to announce that the Foundation’s first Christmas Festival raised $8,128 in support of current Houlton Regional Hospital medical needs,” said Elizabeth Dulin, Foundation executive director. “We wish to extend to everyone who made a presentation with so much beauty and work put into them our deepest gratitude for such a tremendous outpouring of support for our hospital and made it such a huge success.”
