Good morning from Augusta. A bizarre episode unfolded on Wednesday around Maine’s 2018 election, when the Maine Republican Party released affidavits from 17 voters in the 1st Congressional District who think they mistakenly voted in the wrong congressional district.

Democrats in the Maine Legislature nominated Rep. Aaron Frey for attorney general on Tuesday, all but installing him as the replacement for Gov.-elect Janet Mills in keeping with the State House tradition of picking candidates with legislative experience.

Good morning from Augusta. One of the most uncertain Maine elections of 2018 is taking place today at the State House, where legislative Democrats will meet in the afternoon to nominate candidates for constitutional offices, including in a five-way race for attorney general.

The recount in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District requested by outgoing U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin after losing a November ranked-choice race to Rep.-elect Jared Golden will begin Thursday and is expected to last into the new year.

Good morning from Augusta. Attorney General Janet Mills will take a major step in her transition to the governor’s office this week, when she begins interviewing candidates for more than a dozen Cabinet positions that her transition team says about 150 people have applied for.

Democrats are mobilizing against her. She angered members of her own party last year, then Republicans got wiped out in Maine’s 2018 elections, leaving U.S. Sen. Susan Collins the last one standing in all of New England’s congressional delegation.

Good morning from Augusta. U.S. Sen. Susan Collins stepped back from her support of one of President Donald Trump’s most controversial judicial nominees to date on Thursday, though she was still non-committal after another Republican senator effectively sank the nomination.

Good day from Augusta. Outgoing U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin continued to put Maine’s new ranked-choice voting system through its paces on Monday, when he asked for a recount of the November election won by Assistant Maine House Majority Leader Jared Golden.
