25 Years Ago – Sept. 23, 1998
ATX opens an office in the downtown area — Three miles of wire, numerous cubicles and a state-of-the-art computer system were installed in the former Brooks building to prepare for one of the city’s newest businesses. A crowd of more than 50 people showed up to celebrate the grand opening and dedication at the company’s new Sweden Street location.

100 Years Ago – Sept. 13, 1923
Directory being formed — A new pocket directory of the village of Caribou is being printed at this office. The work, which was compiled by W. B. Brown, contains the names of our citizens, together with their address, street and number; also other valuable information. When completed the book will, we predict, find a ready sale, and be of considerable value.

115 Years Ago – Aug. 27, 1908
With the big leagues now — ‘Bobby’ Vail of this town has joined the pitching staff of the Pittsburgs. This team is now at the head of the National League, and it certainly speaks well for ‘Bob’ to get such a position. His many friends and admirers in Aroostook have reason to feel proud of his advance in the baseball world and will watch with interest his work with the fast Pittsburg team.

115 Years Ago – Aug. 20, 1908
Accepts a new position — Dr. O. H. Brann of Augusta, a graduate of Tufts Dental School, has accepted a position in Dr. M. L. Bonney’s dental parlors. Mr. Brann has successfully passed the examination of the Maine State Dental Board and is considered a first-class man in every respect.

Helping out — Beecher Currier is clerking in Scates & Co.’s store in Fort Fairfield during the absence of Mr. Scates who has gone on the Canton Wabasso excursion through the Maritime Provinces.

115 Years Ago – Aug. 6, 1908
Repairs are complete — Repairs on the building occupied by Tornquist Brothers grocery are now complete. A new basement with concrete walls and floor has been put in, an addition built on the rear and other improvements made. The work was done under the supervision of E. O. Dahlstrom.

75 Years Ago – July 29, 1948
Large crowd attends the New Sweden anniversary — A large gathering attended the 78th anniversary of the settling of New Sweden Sunday afternoon at Thomas Park. Services were conducted there in the spacious music bowl. Mrs. Agnes Anderson, 83, the only remaining survivor of the 51 Swedish settlers who, under the leadership of W. W. Thomas founded the town, was present at the celebration.
