Teddy bear craze has struck — The ‘Teddy Bear’ craze has struck Caribou. Clark & Jerrard have a window full of these little animals and they are attracting a lot of attention.

New sign — The L.J. Sherwood Co. have placed a new sign 21 feet long over their store front. Raised or block letters covered with gold are used in its construction. These letters are as beautiful as they are rare and it is another proof of the fact that the best is none too good for this progressive corporation.

Returned from trip — W. R. Smith of the firm Hines & Smith Company returned Friday from a trip to Patten, Sherman Mills, Houlton, Bridgewater, Monticello and Mars Hill where he had been on a business trip, calling on the agents of the company in the towns named.

A trip to Boston — C.S. Patterson is on a week’s trip to Boston. His place as clerk at the Vaughan House is filled during his absence by George Calkins.

Completed the census — Miss A. Louise Thomas, superintendent of schools, has completed taking the school census of Caribou, and finds 1850 pupils of school age.

New space for upholstering — H.H. Whitney, dealer in furniture, has rented the office building adjoining his store and will use it for an upholstering and picture framing department.

Sold business — Wm. Barker, who has conducted the Caribou Steam Laundry in this place for a number of years, has sold the business to M.L. Hutchinson of Machais, who will probably take possession the latter part of the month.

Reappointed as superintendent of schools — Miss A. Louise Thomas, who served as superintendent of schools last year, giving general satisfaction, has again been appointed to that position by the school committee.

Received a new appointment — D.E. Johnson has received his appointment as rural mail carrier on route No. 1, taking the place made vacant by the resignation of Robt. McLellan. Mr. Johnson begins his duties on April 15.

Return from business trip — W.R. Pattee returned Thursday from his trip to New York, where he had been to purchase new goods for his three stores, dry goods, boot and shoe and notion store.
