Installation of officers will be part of the final meeting of the season for the Aroostook Retired Educators Association (AREA) to be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center. Elected for two-year terms during AREA’s Aug. 25, meeting at the Loring Job Corps facility were Carol McElwee, president, of Caribou; Patricia Pelletier, Allagash, first vice president; Diane Parent, Caribou, second vice president; Lorraine Redwine, St. David, secretary; Patricia Dow, Fort Kent, corresponding secretary; Paul Bouchard, Fort Kent, treasurer and Rena Kearney, Mars Hill, assistant secretary.
Robert White of Caribou is the immediate past president. Members of the nominating committee included Henry Carbone, Fort Kent; Mabel Desmond, Mapleton; Paul Bouchard, Fort Kent; and Jay Clark of Houlton.
Other executive board members are Nancy Hutchinson, Monticello, public relations; Janet Woods, Caribou and Dolores Dumont, Fort Kent, community participation co-chairs; Donna Hurley, Caribou, historian; and Ruth Gahagan, Stockholm, informational services.
Legislative Committee members are Henry Carbone and Jay Clark, Houlton, and Paul Lynch, Presque Isle. Leola Bouchard of Fort Kent, is membership chair; Robert White serves as pre-retirement chair while Richard Rand of Presque Isle is in charge of the Remembrance Committee/Memorial Fund.
The Aroostook group remains the largest of Maine’s county retired educators organizations with just under 400 members. AREA meets during the last week of June, July, August, and September.
Members are encouraged to attend the annual state meeting of the Maine Education Association-Retired (MEA-R) held every May in Augusta.
Leola and Paul Bouchard, Henry Carbone, and Bob White serve on committees at the state level.
