Tigers, Panthers qualify for Class C state tourney

    FORT FAIRFIELD — Home course proved advantageous for the Fort Fairfield golf team as the Tigers won the Aroostook County golf championship Friday. With the victory, the Tigers qualified for the state team championships, set for Saturday, Oct. 10 at Natanis Country Club in Vassalboro.

    Central Aroostook also qualified for states as a team.
    The top six golfers, shooting 90 or less, qualified for the state individual championships on Oct 17, also  at Natanis Country Club. Those qualifying as individuals were: Central Aroostook’s Kaine  Kingsbury (87) and Will Delong (90); Southern Aroostook’s David Dubois (77); Katahdin’s Brandon Robinson (88); and Fort Fairfield’s  Josh Churchill (88) and Ian Girvin (86).
    Played under wet, windy conditions, scores for many of the golfers were much higher than anticipated.
    “All players did a great job considering the conditions as it rained all day and was windy and cold,” Fort Fairfield coach Larry Gardiner said.
    Team scores were: Fort Fairfield, 367; CAHS, 376; Hodgdon, 419; Katahdin, 468; and Limestone, 501.
    The individual results, by team, were:
    Ashland — Mark Corella, 94; and Taylor Condon, 116.
    Central Aroostook —Kingsbury, 87, Delong, 90; Logan McLaughlin, 98; Abe Brewer, 101; and Tim Lawrence, 127.
    Fort Fairfield — Billy Weissman, 99; Landon Towle, 94; Churchill, 88; Girvan, 86; Tyler Churchill, 97; Steven Adams, 96; and Dereck Dufour, 101.
    Limestone-MSSM — Ty Tracy, 113; Nate Berube, 126; Mike Allen, 131; and Julia Weatherhead, 131.
