PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – More than 50 exhibitors displaying products and services ranging from alternate energy and technology to health and wellness and winter sports and recreation will be on hand at the third annual Fall and Winter Expo at The Forum in Presque Isle Sept. 26-27.
The event, co-sponsored by WAGM-TV and the Northern Maine Community College Foundation, will be held Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
“We are just thrilled at the response we have received from businesses and organizations throughout the region. We have a wonderful mix of exhibitors and a wide range of products and services that will be presented at this weekend’s show,” said Vicki Smith, NMCC Foundation board member and chairperson of the Fall and Winter Expo Committee. “In the three short years we have hosted the Expo, it has quickly become the largest and top attended show of its kind at this time of year.”
Attendees of this year’s event will have the opportunity to learn about the latest in alternative heating products and units, including wood, pellet, coal and biomass burning technology, as well as solar and wind energy. Several exhibitors will feature home improvement, décor and entertainment products. Other exhibitors will showcase products to help folks stay active outdoors during the coming winter months, as well as how to have fun and clear the abundant snow that falls on the region each year.
Health and wellness exhibits will be prominent at the 2009 Fall and Winter Expo. NMCC nursing students and medical assisting students will host an educational health fair featuring numerous interactive displays on topics concerning wellbeing in the coming winter months. The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle will sponsor a $400 scholarship award to be presented to the top nursing student display at the show.
Unfortunately, due to a delay in the delivery of seasonal flu vaccines to area hospitals, a free flu shot clinic previously planned and advertised for the Expo – sponsored by Cary Medical Center – has been cancelled. However, Cary is still planning to conduct health screenings including blood pressure checks.
The Expo’s theme is also evident in the valuable prizes show attendees will be eligible to win with their $3 admission fee. The County Stove Shop of Caribou has donated a pellet stove, and Aroostook Door & Window is providing an Ariens Snowblower. There are also four NASCAR tickets to Loudon, N.H., complete with access to the NAPA tent, lunch, and a meet and greet with a driver courtesy of LeVasseur’s NAPA Auto and Truck Parts of Presque Isle. Caron’s Lawn and Property Maintenance of Presque Isle has donated six cords of firewood that will also be drawn at the end of the weekend. Another new addition to the door prizes has been donated by Country Collectibles of Presque Isle, which will draw the names of four winners each hour for the very popular Troll Beads.
Attractions to the show will include humvee rides for individuals and families provided by the Maine Military Authority, a children’s bouncy house courtesy of Pines Health Services, hockey speed shot contest coordinated by Aroostook Youth Hockey, and the opportunity for individuals to complete a passport application on-site through a collaborative effort of the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library in Presque Isle and the Edmunds Library at Northern Maine Community College.
“There is truly something for everyone at this year’s show! This is an event for the entire family,” said Smith.
This is the second year the Expo has been organized collaboratively by WAGM-TV and the Northern Maine Community College Foundation.
“WAGM is pleased to be teaming with the NMCC Foundation for a second year to bring ‘The County’ and Western New Brunswick the Fall and Winter Expo. The show has come together quite nicely with over 50 exhibitors. The attendees will have a great day of fun and walk away with a lot of information on products from alternative energy solutions, remodeling your kitchen, and how to have fun this winter and much more,” said WAGM-TV Sales Manager Kelly Landeen. “In addition, attendees will have a chance to win over $20,000 worth of prizes. This will be a great day to spend with your family, so please come and join us at the Fall and Winter Expo on the 26th and 27th at The Forum in Presque Isle.”
