To the editor:
Over the past months, the leaders of our nation have more insistently chosen to deny the right to life of the most innocent and defenseless among us — our unborn babies in the womb. For example, President Obama declared support of the ‘Freedom of Choice Act’ which would make illegal any legislation restricting the practice of abortion. It is clear that the denial of the right to life to the unborn eventually results in the denial of the same right to those who have grown weak in old age, serious illness or special needs.
Our nation is becoming ever more a society in which those in power decide for whom the right to life will be respected.
According to the Associated Press, health care legislation before Congress would allow a new government-sponsored insurance plan to cover abortions. As far as I am concerned, this is just one more step to allow and to fund all abortions. I do believe that we do need a health care bill, but not one that pays for abortions.
