CHS names highest achieving graduates

     Principal Travis Barnes and Director of Guidance Mark Pinette have announced the names of the highest achieving students from Caribou High School’s Class of 2016.

     Graduating as valedictorian for the CHS Class of 2016 is Chathu Karunasiri, the son of Ronkiri and Manel Karunasiri.

     Chathu was involved in the Gifted & Talented program throughout high school and was a member of the Key Club his junior and senior year. In athletics, he was a member of the cross country and track squads for four seasons and competed on the ski team as a junior and senior.

     He plans plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono as an engineering/business major.

 Salutatorian for the CHS Class of 2016 is Spencer Savage, son of Shawn and Jennie Savage. His high school activities included lettering in varsity golf and basketball all four years and serving on the National Honor Society his junior and senior years.

     He plans to attend the University of Maine for mechanical engineering.

Maria Espinosa, daughter of Allan Espinosa and Erika Arguello, received Caribou HS’s first honor part. In high school she played two years of soccer, skied two season, participated in track for three years and cheered for one year. She also participated in Student Council three years and NHS as a junior and senior.

     She plans to study International Comparative Studies at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

 Earning the Second Honor Part at CHS was Ben Ezzy, son of Richard and Kim Ezzy. His activities included four years of soccer and track, four years on the math team and in the Gifted & Talented program, and two years of world language and NHS. He plans to continue his education at the University of Miami.

   Named as Third Honor Part was Megan Theriault, daughter of Brad Theriault and Lisa Theriault.

     Her high school activities included four years on the Math Team, on year on the Foreign Language Club and NHS her junior and senior years.

     She plans to attend Northern Maine Community College for nursing.

  Michael Hunter, son of Scott and Robin Hunter, received the Fourth Honor Part for his graduating class. His high school activities included four years of varsity soccer, three years of varsity baseball, one year of varsity basketball, one year of jayvee basketball and jayvee baseball, and NHS his junior and senior year.

     He plans to major in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maine.

Chelsea Chapman, daughter of Don Chapman and Diana Chapman, earned the Fifth Honor Part. She played two years of volleyball, served in the NHS her junior and senior years, and participated on year in the World Language Club.

     She plans to attend the University of Maine for Computer Engineering.

 Richard Schmitt earned the Sixth Honor Part at CHS. He is the son of Samantha Trenchard and plans to study Psychology at Thomas College in Waterville.

     The Seventh Honor Part was awarded to Irene Thibodeau, daughter of Joe Thibodeau and Lisa Anderson. During her years at CHS, she participated in cheerleading for four years, soccer for two seasons and band for four years.

     Her plan is to attend the University of Maine for Chemical Engineering.     

 Madison Staples, daughter of Dean and Donna Staples, earned the Eighth Honor Part. She played soccer and basketball for two years each and softball and track for one season each. She was also an NHS member during her junior and senior years.

     She plans to continuing her education at the University of Southern Maine.

 Ninth Honor Part went to Ethan Plourde, son of Douglas and Stephanie Plourde, He played varsity tennis four years, varsity soccer three seasons and jayvee soccer for one year. He was on the NHS as a junior and senior.

     He plans to major in Engineering/Physics at the University of Maine.

     Joshua McCormack, son of Patrick and Denise McCormack, claimed the Tenth Honor Part for his graduating CHS class. He plans to continue his education at Northern Maine Community College.
