CARIBOU, Maine — The County Boys/Anderson’s Store men’s slo-pitch softball team, made up of players mainly from the New Sweden/Stockholm/Woodland area, captured the Northern Maine Class E State Tournament held July 18 at the Teague Park softball field.
The local squad scored five runs in the top of the seventh to break a tie and go on to a 13-8 victory over HWG of Bangor.
Jon Noyes scored three runs and drove in two to lead the offense, while Eric Berube was the winning pitcher.
Only two other teams competed in the tourney — Griffeth Ford of Caribou and The Crew of Ellsworth, so a round-robin format was used and the teams with the best records advanced to the championship game.
