Late blight detected across the border

New Brunswick agricultural officials have confirmed Tuesday several cases of late blight in potato fields in Wakefield Parish and Aberdeen.

These locations are adjacent to the central Aroostook towns of Blaine, Monticello and Littleton.
“I expect late blight to be appearing in the Littleton to Blaine area in the next five to 10 days. Growers in these areas would be well advised to go to areas of potato fields where late blight showed in 2007 and look for it,” said Dr. Steven B. Johnson, crops specialist and professor with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Presque Isle.
