PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle Historical Society recently recognized 55 volunteers reporting over 2,600 volunteer hours in 2008 during a special cookout held on Saturday, April 25, as part of National Volunteer Week.
All volunteers who reported donated hours in 2008 received a certificate of appreciation from the Historical Society. In addition, for the second year in a row, volunteers who donated 100 hours or more will receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award. This award included an official President’s Volunteer Service Award lapel pin, a personalized certificate of achievement, a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States and a letter from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.
Of the 55 volunteers, seven received the President’s Service Award for giving 100. Five individuals received a “Bronze” award: Fred Haines (100 hours), Barb Nardone (102 hours), Jeremy Farley (166 hours), Craig Green (215 hours) and Steve Vance (229.5 hours). Two individuals received a Gold Award for donating more than 500 hours of service in 2008: Richard Rand (647.5 hours), and Kimberly Smith (721 hours).
Several other volunteers received certificates of appreciation for their volunteerism. All volunteers are welcome and any donated time is greatly appreciated. Volunteer time is considered an in-kind donation and assists the organization in leveraging grant funding.
The Presque Isle Historical Society is a non-profit organization established in 1963 which seeks to study, promote and preserve the history, heritage, culture and artifacts of Presque Isle for future generations.
