CARIBOU, Maine — In the past 25 years of business, Shear Precision owner and cosmetologist Alma Jackson has made a lot of good friends and some great memories at her Bennett Drive business.
While 25 years is a very respectable milestone for a business, Jackson has worked hard to experience success. Shear Precision has moved twice in the past 25 years, having started on South Main Street and relocating to Bennett Drive at two separate locations. Currently residing at 159 Bennett Drive, Jackson is still offering a variety of cuts, colors and styles that range from classic cuts that never go out of style to the latest fads and hues.
The tools of the trade have changed the scope of styles over the years as well, and Jackson commented that it’s not just rollers and updos anymore.
The clientele has changed as well over 25 years; as less gentlemen sit down at barber shops to wait for a trim, about half of the folks who settle down in Jackson’s barber chair are male.
Assisting Jackson at the quarter-century salon is Louise Brescia, who came to Shear Precision about 10 years ago, and the two have a great working relationship based on trust and friendliness.
Jackson is soft spoken and a hard worker who still enjoys owning the salon after all these years.
“My job is never the same from day to day,” she said. “I love it and am very fortunate and thankful that I’ve had patronage for the past 25 years. My customers are all great people and I appreciate every one of them.”
Jackson knew she wanted to be a cosmetologist at a very early age, and didn’t need to look farther that her own home to ‘start’ her career as a beautician.
“When you come from a large family such as I did, we never went to the beauty salon: we had to cut each other’s hair.” Jackson described.
