• Potatoes $1.25 per barrel today.
• The first mail from Van Buren, New Sweden, etc., over the B & A extension arrived Monday morning. Hereafter the mails will be carried by train.

100 Years Ago-Jan. 28, 1915

• Potato prices — Potatoes are quoted at 65 cents per barrel.
• Farm happenings — Herbert Blaisdell is cutting ice on the Neadeau Lake. Jerry Lundy is hauling starch to this [East Road] siding. Harry Woodman was threshing Monday. Roscoe Burtchell killed a muskrat in his horse manger last week.
• Weather interests — Big snowstorm yesterday giving us plenty of sleighing for a while. The snow looks very welcome.

75 Years Ago-Jan. 25, 1940

• Celebrating 50 years — The Caribou Women’s Literary Club held a musical tea in the BPW club rooms in observance of the golden jubilee of the Federated Women’s Club of the United States. Mrs. Tirza Hardison and Mrs. W.P. Hamilton, the two oldest members of the club, poured.
• Stockholm gathering — A group of friends gathered at the home of Herman Carlstrom in honor of Mrs. Ingerborg Carlstrom’s 85th birthday. Those present were Mrs. Eliot Hede, Mrs. August Sodergren, and Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Sjoberg.

50 Years Ago-, Jan. 28, 1965

• Calling Caribou businesses — A young and vigorous new president of the Caribou Chamber of Commerce called for unity and hard work in order that the aims and services of his organization might be pursued and developed during this year. Gordon Espling addressed members and guests during the chamber’s annual meeting at Hotel Caribou.
• Honored on birthday — Mrs. Alma Sleeper was guest of honor at a dessert-bridge party given by her daughters-in-law, Mrs. Joseph Sleeper Jr. and Mrs. Nelson Sleeper, at the latter’s home on Collins St. The occasion was Mrs. Sleeper’s birthday.

25 Years Ago-Jan. 24, 1990

• Limestone man honored — Verne Weatherhead was recognized as Limestone’s Citizen of the Year for 1989 during the annual Chamber of Commerce/Rotary banquet held at Loring Air Force Base. Presenting the award was State Rep. Sue Pines, herself a Citizen of the Year recipient in 1967.
• Partners in Caribou — Caribou barbers Laurien Nadeau and Claude Cyr have announced their new partnership. The veteran barbers will work together in Cyr’s Barber Shop at the corner of High St. and Bennett Drive.
