Holy Rosary Circle #638 Scribe
The Daughters of Isabella held their last meeting until fall, June 4, at the Parish Center. This being an ice cream social, members were greeted upon entering with the ice cream flavor of their choice.
The 50/50 raffle in the amount of $10 was won by Arline St. Peter who returned it back to the club. Birthdays for the month of June were given and Norma Shaw was the recipient of a small gift. “Happy Birthday” was sung.
Regent called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m. Opening Prayer was led by Chancellor Jeanine Morneault. Also, the Prayer for Vocations was recited and Pledge of Allegiance was followed by our Ode. Draping of the Charter was held in memory of our deceased sisters, Rita Hechler and Rossmon Morin. Regent, Chancellor, Monitor and Past Regent led in prayer and the song, “O, What Could My Jesus Do More,” was sung.
Acting Secretary Dolores D. Martin read the minutes of the May meeting, submitted by Secretary Bea Pirie who was not able to join us this evening. It was moved by Jean Bushnell and seconded by Doris Albert to accept the report as read. A roll call of officers showed four absent.
Vice Regent Elaine reported on the Visitation of the Sick that cards were sent to: Doris Martin, Martha Dufour, Jackie Johnson, Norma Shaw and Shelley O’Rourke. Cards will be sent to Debbie Chabre, Fern Michaud and Delores Tardie. A thank you card was received from Loretta Williams. A layette was displayed, now valued at over $100.
In old business, Regent Mary Ellen reported that the position of first auditor had been filled by Priscilla Foley and she thanked Priscilla for accepting. It was reported that $109 had been collected for the No Bake Food Sale to help Youth Minister Corey Morin go to Arizona for a training workshop. A verbal “thank you” to the Daughters who helped out on the Second Holy Communion held for our students on May 18.
In new business, in July 2015, Holy Rosary Circle will be celebrating their Diamond Anniversary. As of July 28, 2015, we will have been in existence for 75 years. Much discussion followed as to what we should do to celebrate this milestone in our circle. A committee will be formed and members contacted. It was moved by Jeanine Morneault and seconded by Dolores D. Martin that Holy Rosary Circle #638 celebrates their 75th anniversary in July 2015. Motion carried.
Regent Mary Ellen reported on the Off Year Workshop held in Madison, May 17 and 18. It was pouring rain all weekend. A beautiful memorial service in honor of our deceased members during the past year was held. Monsignor Andrew Dubois spoke to us. Regent displayed pictures taken at the workshop. A candle was also presented to each circle.
The Scholarship Committee reports there were 26 applications; none were disqualified. Joshua Audibert was the recipient of the scholarship with runner-up being Lorraine Pue and second runner-up our own Paige Nadeau. Second place was Emily Fournier from Waterville and third place was Adella Steigler from Madawaska.
Our circle received the Unity Award and Regent Mary Ellen displayed it. We missed having the highest award, Cross and Crown, because of membership, lost by one member. The scrapbook submitted by Vice Regent Elaine Haines was displayed. Holy Rosary Theme Basket for 2015 is gift-wrapping. The State Convention will be held in Augusta in May 2015. There were no winners from Holy Rosary on the 40-week club, however, check in the amount of $36, received at $3 per member. Our circle had 12 members participating last year. Dolores D. Martin asked the circle if, as our fundraiser, we could go ahead with the discount cards again this year. A motion was made by Jeanne Bushnell and seconded by Doris Albert to do so. All were in favor.
The Obligation was taken, the closing prayer recited and the ode sung. Regent wished everyone a “happy summer.” The meeting adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
