Hard shoes to fill
As you all know this is my first week doing the Easton community news column. I would like to say a BIG thank you to Eldora Carter from everyone here in Easton for her many years of dedicated service to our community. Eldora researched and wrote the Easton news for the Star-Herald and did a great job. I have some big shoes to fill, but I will try my best. I would greatly appreciate any news you may have. You can e-mail me at debbiesmith04_69@hotmail.com or call me at 488-5530. Thanks.
Again I say thanks, Eldora. We love and appreciate you. Enjoy your retirement.

Class of 2009 happenings
The Easton High School Class of 2009 will be celebrating their last days at EHS this week with several events taking place. Tonight, June 3, will be Class Night with all classes participating. On Thursday evening there will be an alumni supper at 6 p.m. This will honor our 2009 graduates. All Easton alumni are invited to attend.
The final event for the Class of 2009 will be their commencement exercises on Friday night at 7 p.m. I’m sure this is the one they are most excited about and looking forward to. Best of luck always to all of you. Focus on the journey, not the destination.
Back in town

Bonnie and Carl Fuller are back in town after spending the winter in Kentucky with their daughter Sarah and other family members. It’s great to have you back. Welcome home.
Melvin and Helen Cleaves are also back to Easton after spending the winter in Florida. Even though we all envy you for spending the winter in Florida we are glad you are back. Melvin and Helen are now making their home at the manor in Easton.
Out of town
Dottie and Duncan Beaton are enjoying a nice trip to China.
Birthday Party
A 94th birthday party was held for Rena Doak, a longtime resident of Easton. The party was held at the Mars Hill nursing home by Tammy Fuller. Those attending from Easton included Tammy Fuller, her children, Samantha and Luke and Edith Fuller.
Alumni news
Sister Joyce Mahany, RSM, EHS Class of 1948, received an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from St. Joseph’s College at its 2009 commencement on May 9. The degree was conferred in recognition of her life’s work and contribution to education on all levels. Joyce is the daughter of the late Eldore and Delia (Long) Mahany of Easton.
Sympathy
Our sympathy goes out to the family of Jim Foren who passed away on May 25. We are saddened to hear of his passing. Jim lived in Easton most of his life. He brought joy and meaning to the lives of his parents and sparked their years of devoted service to the Central Aroostook Association for Retarded Citizens. Jim possessed an uncommon wisdom, a love of kindness and a deep appreciation of music. He attended the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church, participated in the Special Olympics, loved karaoke night, the Shrine Circus and parades.
AWANAS hold last meeting before summer break
The Easton Wesleyan Awanas Club held their last meeting on May 27. The evening started out with a supper of barbecue of hotdogs, salads, chips, watermelon, drinks and many delicious deserts. They then proceeded with the awards night, with many children earning well deserved awards. These children work hard for these awards. They have to memorize a lot of scriptures as well as other things.
After the awards ceremony there was a Pinewood Derby car race. Each child created his or her own car and competed against all the other children. It was lots of fun. Delaney Leach ended up the overall winner. Congratulations Delaney on a good job! Thanks to all of the dedicated workers who put in countless hours working with these children and sacrificing their time to do it. Blessings to all.

THE EASTON CUB SCOUTS assisted the American Legion members at the local cemeteries on Monday, May 18, by placing flags on the graves of those who proudly served our country. This is the second year the local Cub Scout pack has participated in doing so and continues this tradition in honoring veterans on Memorial Day. Pictured placing a flag is Cub Scout Trevor Hathaway.
