Local ski teams had a busy week, with Nordic competitions held in Madawaska and Fort Kent and an alpine meet taking place at Fort Kent’s Lonesome Pine Trails, all over the past eight days. In the latest meet, a pursuit cross country race at Fort Kent Monday, the Caribou boys came away victorious by scoring 25 points to finish three ahead of Fort Kent while also beating Madawaska and Presque Isle.
The Vikings were paced by Riley McDuffie and Keith Draper, who were second and third, respectively. Teammate Michael Marquis placed fifth.
The Caribou girls were second, just four behind Fort Kent. Sarah Doak was the race winner, while Viking teammates Lauren Chapman (fifth), Madeline Gudde (ninth) and Kendra Furber (10th) were also among the top 10.
In Saturday’s alpine meet, Caribou’s only downhill competitor, Tyler Strid, was 12th overall in the morning race and 16th in the afternoon race.
Last Tuesday, the Caribou girls were the winners and the boys were second in a meetheld at Madawaska.
The top Vikings were Doak (second) and Furber (fourth) for the girls and McDuffie (third) and Marquis (seventh) for boys.
