Film highlights French culture

    The University of Maine at Fort Kent’s Acadian Archives will host a free public showing of the documentary  “Waking Up French: Réveil” Thursday, Jan. 30, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fox Auditorium. 

    The film is the epic story of New England’s largest minority and what happened to them. It is estimated that today in New England there are more than two million descendants of the one million who came from Québec and New Brunswick at the turn of the 20th century.
    A free workshop by language instructors Ben Levin and Julia Schulz will be held Friday, Jan. 31, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in Cyr Hall’s Grindle Room, emphasizing the importance of a second language. Pre-registration is required by calling (207) 834-8631.
