Caribou students raise funds for muscular dystrophy in Maine

The Caribou Middle School Builders Club recently participated in a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, raising $400 for the organization through the sales of Make a Muscle Mobiles.    The MDA recently announced the donation will benefit children and adults affected by muscle disease in the state of Maine.
From mid-November through December 2013, Builders Club members sold the $1 mobiles, which were bought and signed by community members at basketball games.
“Caribou community members have stepped up to help the communities we serve,” said Amber Pelletier, MDA health-care services coordinator. “Each mobile sold and every dollar raised will directly benefit the families we help in our local area.”
Pelletier added, “Without the generosity of this community and the help of community members, many of the services MDA provides for families wouldn’t be possible.”
Funds raised through the 2013 mobile sales will help send area children affected by muscular dystrophy and related diseases to MDA summer camp at Camp Waban in Sanford. The program also helps to support the organization’s worldwide research program and national network of 200 medical clinics, including clinics at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and Maine Medical Center in Portland.
